No Fun League

August 31, 2007

So, the NFL did a rebranding exercise. I think they did an ok job, but the bottom of the letters and the bottom of the shield bother me – the angular type to the curves of the sheild look really off. Thoughts? Am I being waaaay to anal?

Found this on Agency Tart (very funny site for those in the ad biz) Now check out the commercial – we all have worked (or have been) the people on this team – enjoy.

the mPhone

August 30, 2007

So, I broke down and bought an iPhone 2 weeks ago. Does everyone need one, no – but it is a pretty damn impressive piece of technology. It feels like you have a portable computer in your pocket. All the complaints people have stated are, for the most part, valid… That being said, if you want a taste of what is to come (convergence of mediums onto one device) the iPhone is a great starting point for the average person…

The Fall of Uncle Sam

I am in a faculty meeting tomorrow, so I’ll post this today.

There is no God but nerd?

Apparently our lives are merely computer simulations run by our future selves (is that even possible if we are simulations?) And if “This kind of posthuman might have other ways of having fun, like stimulating their pleasure centers directly,” would they really be that interested in reworking the past or would they be in a constant state of self-induced bliss? JOHN TIERNEY digs deep into the subject. I will go back to being a pawn…

Until I talked to Nick Bostrom, a philosopher at Oxford University, it never occurred to me that our universe might be somebody else’s hobby. I hadn’t imagined that the omniscient, omnipotent creator of the heavens and earth could be an advanced version of a guy who spends his weekends building model railroads or overseeing video-game worlds like the Sims.

But now it seems quite possible. In fact, if you accept a pretty reasonable assumption of Dr. Bostrom’s, it is almost a mathematical certainty that we are living in someone else’s computer simulation.

Rise Against

August 17, 2007

I saw these guys in Baltimore last night – what a great show. No mellow songs or ballads, 90 minutes of balls out music. (and yes, I sat on the sidelines – I am too old to get in the pit. that would be waaaay to hard to explain at work) They talk about their politics on stage, but it does not get real preachy (which is a good thing). This is the second show I have seen at Rams Head Live and it is a good venue – almost like the 9:30 club, but with that new car smell. So, for those of you who don’t know or have never heard Rise Against check them out here.

Zombies!!!

August 16, 2007

Ok, I don’t spend a lot of time playing video games, but Dead Rising has been my favorite over the past year. After a long day in the office, it is kind of nice to slaughter hordes of zombies. Its not the most innovative storyline – kind of reminds me of Dawn of the Dead w/ the setting of the game being a mall. The beauty is that almost everything in the stores can be used as a weapon and zombies are just plain fun to kill!
