song of the day – Broken Social Scene w/ J Mascis – a little slice of heaven on friday

This song was recorded with Joules Scott Key of Metric and Bang Lime on drums and J Mascis and Kevin Drew on guitar and vocals. The video happened last minute after a Dinosaur Jr show in Toronto where J, Lou and Murph all came to the shoot to hang out. John Caffery from KIDS ON TV was hired to come and dance his ASS off and a spontaneous party was put into effect.

There were seven mirrors, one disco ball, four lights, one bottle of rum, three bottles of tequila, 62 beers, four crew and 17 people.

It got put together on the day of the shoot and became the party of the year. It cost three thousand dollars to make…

It was priceless.

So, the NFL did a rebranding exercise. I think they did an ok job, but the bottom of the letters and the bottom of the shield bother me – the angular type to the curves of the sheild look really off. Thoughts? Am I being waaaay to anal?

So, I broke down and bought an iPhone 2 weeks ago. Does everyone need one, no – but it is a pretty damn impressive piece of technology. It feels like you have a portable computer in your pocket. All the complaints people have stated are, for the most part, valid… That being said, if you want a taste of what is to come (convergence of mediums onto one device) the iPhone is a great starting point for the average person…

Apparently our lives are merely computer simulations run by our future selves (is that even possible if we are simulations?) And if “This kind of posthuman might have other ways of having fun, like stimulating their pleasure centers directly,” would they really be that interested in reworking the past or would they be in a constant state of self-induced bliss? JOHN TIERNEY digs deep into the subject. I will go back to being a pawn…

Until I talked to Nick Bostrom, a philosopher at Oxford University, it never occurred to me that our universe might be somebody else’s hobby. I hadn’t imagined that the omniscient, omnipotent creator of the heavens and earth could be an advanced version of a guy who spends his weekends building model railroads or overseeing video-game worlds like the Sims.

But now it seems quite possible. In fact, if you accept a pretty reasonable assumption of Dr. Bostrom’s, it is almost a mathematical certainty that we are living in someone else’s computer simulation.
